TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
I love to explore the darker sides of humanity and mythos. Growing up half Japanese, I have fallen in love with the culture and allowed it to inspire me in ways that normal Western fantasy has sometimes failed to do. I currently reside in Dayton, Ohio where I continue my exploration of the shadows and chase after dragons with my husband, son, and cats.
WHAT INFLUENCED YOU TO WRITE YOUR GENRE(S)?
The biggest influence for dungeonunk resided in the Final Fantasy series where it had so many modern and futuristic technology all while still feeling like it was a medieval fantasy style adventure. However, my love of grimdark arose when I discovered A Song of Ice and Fire and realized why I could never connect with some of the happier fantasy stories out there as much.It introduced me to grimdark and made me fall in love with fantasy all over again.
WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE AUTHORS?
Although many of the things she does now don’t align with my personal views, JK Rowling will be one of my favorite authors because of how much of an impact she had on my life since I was in elementary school that led me to the careers I am in today. Outside of her, I have a few rotating favorites with my current favorite being Andy Peloquin.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS?
One of my favorite current books is Red Sister by Mark Lawrence because I was able to explore a grimdark world with a female protagonist focus without it feeling like a damsel in distress. It felt so different compared to so many other rogue-like books I had experienced.
WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE LITERARY CHARACTERS?
Illana from the Queen of Thieves series is one of my favorite characters because of how realistic she feels. As she ages throughout the series it is all natural and events that she dealt with in the past are still very much a part of who she is. Besides her, Rezkin from King’s Dark Tidings is an absolute cinnamon roll. He is an emotionless killer, but his innocence in understanding others is something I absolutely love about him.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH POTENTIAL READERS?
I have so many Easter Egss in each one of my books I have ever published and challenge you to find some of them. It is always a bonus if you can find them. I love talking with my readers as well, so if you ever want to email me or send me a message, I would love to talk with you all about nerd culture or whether the dress is pink or blue.
WHERE CAN WE GO TO LEARN MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR LITERARY WORKS?
