JQM LITERARY SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS The Ukinhan Wilds by Eldon Thompson
FIRST, LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A BIT. TELL US SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOURSELF:
Washed up college quarterback turned epic fantasy author. Debut novel THE CRIMSON SWORD was published May 3, 2005, the same day as Brandon Sanderson’s ELANTRIS. Sold a feature-length screenplay adaptation of Terry Brooks’s THE ELFSTONES OF SHANNARA to Warner Bros in 2007, with Mike Newell attached to direct. Alas, the film version was never made.
WHAT IS THE GENRE AND AUDIENCE FOR THIS BOOK:
For epic fantasy or sword & sorcery readers, age 14 and above for depictions of violence.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK:
This series is essentially a “spin-off” trilogy tracking the further adventures of a favorite supporting character (Kylac Kronus) from my Asahiel books. Readers including my executive editor at HarperCollins wanted to know what became of Kylac following his departure from the prior series. So I surrendered to popular demand and devised this story.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BOOK:
Kylac is a rogue wanderer who, despite his young age of 16, has yet to meet his match with a blade. Raised by his father to become an assassin, he has instead found purpose looking out for those less fortunate than himself. However, his supreme confidence leads him to sometimes act rashly, and he has yet to learn that not all terrors can be cowed with a blade. In this particular adventure, he is recruited by a band of outlanders under royal commission to escort a kidnapped princess back to her father. What follows is a perilous trek across the untamed wilds of the Sundered Isle, hunted by a terrifying mutant left over from the days of the Mage Wars…
