JQM LITERARY SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS The Dark Archer, by Robert Cano
FIRST, LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A BIT. TELL US SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOURSELF:
Introverted, but an avid observer of people and society, both current and past.
WHAT IS THE GENRE AND AUDIENCE FOR THIS BOOK:
Epic dark fantasy, and my audience is specific to those who are fans of classic literature, as I use what some call archaic language and stylization.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK:
I had actually gotten the idea from a short story I’d written for an anthology some friends were putting together. While the short story wasn’t picked up for the anthology, my friends thought that the story merited further expansion. So I put it to the side and set to work on a novella that told the story of one of the characters in the original short story. Thus, The Suffering was born. From this novella, The Dark Archer spun off.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BOOK:
The happy ending we seek in this story is the protagonist’s death. This is probably the most concise way of describing this tale. However, to expound on that a bit, Bene, who is now a wraith, having been betrayed by the princess he had sworn his life to, must find a way to end his suffering. If he refuses to kill, his physical suffering increases. If he gives in and kills, his mental and emotional suffering increases. Either way, he loses. This is why he must find a way to meet a death that he is not allowed. As he seeks this hope at redemption, he comes across others wanting the same. The Satyr war hero, Feorin. The drunken mercenary, Gi. Each with their own story, each with their own broken mind, each wishing for that which Bene seeks. If a wraith can find redemption, then perhaps they could as well.
