FIRST, LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A BIT. TELL US SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOURSELF:

What is unique about me that you don’t already know?  I am at a loss this time.  I have shared so much about myself in the past that I don’t recall what I have and have not shared.  Let me think.

I don’t know if I shared with you that I met my wife in August of 2004, proposed on her 18th birthday two months later, and got married the following May.  That was fifteen years ago.  My, how time flies.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK:

So this story was a long time coming.  For those of you who read ‘The United, The Realm of the Light Book 1’ may recall that TJ had a dream where he wielded Excalibur, The Famed Sword of Camelot.  Well, that one scene got me thinking that I spend so much time explaining what took place in the neighboring kingdoms of Myrr & Buz-Perr-Addock in Northern Eurasia, but not a word is said about Excalibur or Camelot.

Further inspiration came from my long time love of Merlin, Excalibur, Camelot, and Arthurian Lore as a whole.

As long as I am talking about inspirations, allow me to include that Persephone has long been my personal favorite member of the Greek Pantheon, and I often refer to her as my Patron Goddess.  So, in light of my personal love for her, and that King Armaqya was already so strongly based on Merlin the Great, she was the great magical force behind Concordia.

I also want to share that the actual names for Camelot and Excalibur in the Realm of the Light were Concordia and Excal’byr, but over time traditions changed.  The Lady Cote (Persephone’s name in Concordia) became warped into Merlin, Excal’Byr into Excalibur, and Concordia into Camelot.  The reason I did this was because history is always written by the victors, and over time stories become embellished, names change, and history becomes legend.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BOOK:

Excal-Byr takes place at the same time as Denizens Among Us, The Realm of the Light Book 2.  It begins 50 years prior to the Great Coliseum War described in the final chapters of Denizens.

Persephone leaves the Apennine Peninsula and runs away to the British Isles for two reasons.  First, to avoid the impending Second Great Denizen War.  Second, to build Concordia, a utopia where mortal and denizen were treated as equal.  Once in the British Isles, Persephone uses her magical abilities to forge the great sword, Excal’Byr.

Persephone learns that there is no place so remote to avoid war, especially when war comes looking for you.
