JQM Literary Chat Welcomes Allen Steadham

Tell us about yourself:

I’m a Christian, husband of 24 years and father to two sons and a daughter. I’m also an author, musician, singer and former comic/webcomic creator.I’ve been writing novels since 2013, almost non-stop.

Tell us about your book:

Jordan’s World is about a young woman, Jordan Lewis. At 17, she and her mother are abducted by extraterrestrials and taken to an Earth-like world and marooned there. Algoran is colder and harsher in some ways than our world but it has its charms, too. It is almost entirely bereft of what we would consider modern technology and a natural paradise. But it has many dangers.

Jordan and her mother have to adapt to this new environment in order to survive. It helps that they are taken in by a friendly tribe called the Mokta. But Jordan and her mom have to learn a new language, culture and find new roles for themselves on Algoran. It’s challenging but also has its rewards.

After four years of living on Algoran, Jordan learns that the beings who brought her there may live on the other side of the world. She and three of her companions set out for answers – and possibly a way back to Earth. But which world will Jordan decide is her home?

There is a strong spiritual component to the book as well. During Jordan’s quest to find the beings she calls “The Abductors,” she faces a near-death experience and is given a choice by God. Her decision is life-changing but not in a predictable way. The theme of this book is that God reigns over all creation; there is nowhere He can’t reach us, no matter our circumstances.

What influenced you to write your current genre?

I write Christian fiction. I started off wanting to write a fantasy novel but I’m too much of a Star Trek geek. It ended up being Science-Fantasy – and a trilogy. I used to only read Star Trek books for over a decade, because I love that particular fictional universe.

Who are your favorite authors?

What are your favorite books?

Star Trek Destiny (trilogy);Star Trek Enterprise: Kobayashi Maru and Under the Raptor’s Wing;Star Trek Voyager: Distant Shores (anthology);Star Trek Titan: Taking Flight, The Red King and Over A Torrent Sea; Star Trek Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Who are your favorite literary characters?

Captain William T. Riker, Captain Jean Luc Picard, Captain James T. Kirk, Lt. Cmdr. Trip Tucker. Commander T’Pol and quite a few other supporting characters in Star Trek.

Is there anything you want to share with potential readers?

I love to put twists in my stories, but they always serve a purpose. I don’t shock for the sake of shock, it has to benefit the overall story. And it’s still fun!
